What if the earth was only black and white, except for shades and tints between the two for shadows and depth?
All of nature would be affected. No colorful birds, animals, fish, or plants. Would the lakes and oceans be black and the sky white? Would we bottle our black water or carry around our insulated cups with black ice cubes?
With no color in our world, not only would it be sad, it would completely change our economy. We wouldn’t have much of a fashion industry. Of course, we’d still need clothes designers and manufacturers, but with no colors, our choices would be greatly reduced. Textiles would still be made from natural and man-made products. Shapes patterns, and textures would provide some variety, but without blues, yellows, pinks, reds, greens, lavenders, etc. there would be a great deal of uniformity from one garment, or home, or furniture, to another. Paint manufacturers would operate much more efficiently with only black and white.
Decorating decisions and matching garments would be a lot easier. Most goods would cost less since there would be only two color choices.
Women’s make-up should be cheap. Do you want black or white lipstick? Would you use a black, white, or something between for your foundation, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, or blush? And nail polish, black or white?
Electrical wires are color coded. Some other way of identification would have to be found. Interpreting traffic signs and signals would depend on shape and order of placement.
No need to teach toddlers colors other than black and white. Learning to recognize patterns would be limited. Art and photography would be severely impacted.
What about eating our leafy green and colorful vegetables? I guess we’d have to go by shapes and smells. Would chocolate milk look like black water? Would strawberries, cherries, and red punch still taste the same?
Color is everywhere I look, inside and outside, thank God. Literally. He made the earth for us humans. I’m so glad He made it beautiful. Now, if we could just quit messin’ it up…
For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there is none else. Isaiah 45:18 KJV
And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Genesis 2:9 KJV
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart...Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV
Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11 KJV
